Our Philosophy

Train the Dog

Obedience training is the foundation of a healthy future and relationship with your dog. Not only is poor communication the root of many problems in the human world, but the same goes for the canine world.  You must effectively communicate for the outcome you desire. How do you do that?  You teach!

You cannot expect a dog to perform a task that it has not been properly taught to achieve.  Because every dog is different, if the training is not done properly it can lead to bigger problems.  You would not train a 12-week-old puppy in the same exact manner you would train a 5-year-old mature adult dog.  It is important to gain the education when doing the training yourself, so you can be successful and preventative at the same time!

Whether you want to board-and-train, or go through private lessons, the success is determined by the work that is put into the teaching! Dogs learn with proper timing, consistency, and motivation using many different techniques compatible to their personality.

While the final picture may vary from dog to dog, it is our job to bring out the best in your dog and show you how to have the best possible relationship!

Train the Owner (Household)

Whether you choose to take on the training yourself with private lessons, or you decide to board-and-train, both teaching methods require the entire household to always maintain the training over the next 6 months.

Training is not always what you do with a leash and a clicker, it may require adjustments to be made in your home life and/or rules currently in place (or not).  When customers come for help, they understand change must happen.  They invest in the education as much as the training.

Some of our best clients are the ones we have had to work through issues after training was over.  They know they can reach out to us whenever they need to have a pep talk about a new concern. Over the years we have been blessed to train their 2nd dog, 3rd dog, best friend's dog, grand-dogs, etc.

Most dogs love learning new things.  They enjoy the interaction, the bonding, the achievement, and the mental stimulation.   We also enjoy taking them to the next level for services such as Therapy and/or light service work.

Maintain the Training

This is the most important part of it all!

When a dog graduates a board-and-train program, it can sometimes feel like a brand-new dog.  The reactions we receive are rewarding to know that we have helped clients achieve their expectations and/or beyond.  So many hours are devoted into building a better foundation, but if it is not maintained, it will crumble quickly.

It is important that all parties that handle the dog have the education and confidence to re-enforce unacceptable obedience behaviors.  When a dog understands your communication, but chooses to defy your command and/or rules, you learn the proper way to correct the behavior. The rules are the same for all household members, rules are rules.  Consistency is key to maintaining the behaviors and/or obedience you desire.
